The honouring ceremony recognised the contributions made by director Le Quy Duong in training and cooperation in research on theatre, events, festivals and Viet Nam-Mongolia culture over recent years, especially with the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture.
At the ceremony, Ganbaatar Hulan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Viet Nam, extended congratulations and thanks to director Le Quy Duong, highly appreciating his contributions, practical initiatives and efforts to promote the expansion and development of relations in cultural, artistic and educational cooperation between Mongolia and Viet Nam, thereby helping to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen the friendship between the two peoples.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ariunjoloo, Dean of the Faculty of Theatre Arts at the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture, emphasised: “The Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture’s conferment of the title of Honorary Professor is a worthy recognition and demonstrates appreciation for the valuable contributions of director Le Quy Duong to the university and to Mongolia’s theatre arts and culture in general.”
In response, director Le Quy Duong expressed his wish to continue implementing projects to train Mongolian arts students, stage artistic programmes imbued with the cultural imprints and identities of the two countries together with the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture, while expanding research in areas of cooperation and promoting international-level theatre, event and festival projects.
Director Le Quy Duong was born in 1968 in Ha Noi into a family of artists and intellectuals. He graduated at the top of the 1985-1990 intake of the Ha Noi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, majoring in theatre theory and criticism. He is currently a member of the Executive Council of the International Theatre Institute (ITI) and Chairman of the International Festival Forum (IFF), and was awarded a Certificate of Honour by UNESCO’s Council on Music, Literature and Arts for his outstanding contributions to preserving and developing the traditional cultural values of the Vietnamese nation.
In his career, Le Quy Duong became one of the youngest members of the Viet Nam Association of Theatre Artists at the age of 22. Shortly after graduating from university, his first stage script, “Cho doi” (The Marketplace of Life), was staged and won a gold medal at the National Professional Theatre Festival in 1990.
