Speaking at the ceremony, Nguyen Kim Quy, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the Viet Nam Youth Federation, said the “Shining Vietnamese Resilience” programme, launched in 2013, has now become a meaningful event of faith and determination. After six editions organised at the central level, the programme has honoured 275 outstanding young people with disabilities. This year, 26 outstanding individuals were chosen from 62 submitted nominations for honour.
Each individual featured in the programme is a vivid testament to the perseverance and ability to make contributions of young people with disabilities across many areas. Each participant brings their own story and journey, but they all have a common feature of belief in life and determination to pursue positive goals.
“What gives these stories their power to inspire is the way you have gradually built your lives by knowledge, skills and hard work, and then, drawing on your own experiences, created more opportunities for others. Someone who learns a trade can help another person find a job. A suitable technological product can help many people gain access to knowledge. An effective livelihood model can bring stability to many families. Such practical contributions deserve recognition and further support,” Nguyen Kim Quy emphasised at the event.
At the ceremony, several individuals also shared their stories of overcoming adversity, building better lives, achieving success and making positive contributions to their local communities and the country.
Earlier on the morning of September 18, the “Shining Vietnamese Resilience” Festival 2026 was held with a series of practical activities for young people with disabilities, such as introducing and connecting to consume products; employment, start-up, and digital transformation consultancy; sharing of start-up models; the “Colours of Resilience” competition; experiential activities with people with disabilities; specialised medical examinations, health-care consultations, and gift presentation for young people with disabilities.
Through the programme, each of the 26 outstanding young people with disabilities received a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Youth Federation and a savings book worth 10 million VND. On this occasion, partner organisations also provided financial support for outstanding start-up projects by participants in the “Shining Vietnamese Resilience 2026” programme, with each project receiving 50 million VND.
