Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Construction Bui Xuan Dung stressed that clean water supply, drainage, and wastewater treatment are essential services directly tied to public health, urban living standards, socio-economic development, and environmental protection.
He noted that the sector must not only to continue investing in and upgrading infrastructure, but also to enhance service quality and governance efficiency, ensure safe and uninterrupted operations, and adapt proactively to increasingly serious risks.
Urbanisation, growing demand for water, and increasingly severe impacts of climate change are posing new requirements for planning, investment, and operational management.
“This requires us to shift gradually from incident-based response to risk management, from individual investments to the development of integrated, interconnected systems, and to enhance coordination among agencies, levels of government, and localities,” Deputy Minister Bui Xuan Dung said.
Digital transformation is one of the key themes of Viet Nam Water Week 2026. Deputy Minister Bui Xuan Dung said digital transformation in the water sector needs to be implemented practically, with data serving as the foundation for management and operations.
For the water sector, digitalisation needs to be directly integrated with to asset management, water demand forecasting, water loss control, energy optimisation, water quality monitoring, incident alerts, and improved public service quality.
Alongside digital transformation, the climate resilience of water supply and drainage infrastructure, and its ability to cope with water-related risks, must be factored in throughout the entire process, from planning and investment preparation to design, construction, and operational management.
Dr Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Chairman of the Viet Nam Water Supply and Sewerage Association, said Viet Nam Water Week 2026 is taking place at a time when the water sector faces new demands in digital transformation, climate change adaptation, water security, and service quality improvement.
He said the event serves as a forum for the water sector community to share experience, access emerging technology trends, strengthen cooperation, and seek solutions to practical challenges.
The three-day event will feature a series of forums and thematic discussions involving state management agencies, international organisations, experts, scientists, and the business community.
The event also features a B2B matching programme and activities for exchanging information and showcasing technologies.
