Youth network for clean water to be built in 2026–2028 period

The Viet Nam National Union of Students (VNUS) and other relevant agencies signed a cooperation project on December 24 aimed at protecting public health and improving quality of life in line with Viet Nam’s National Strategy on Clean Water Supply and Rural Sanitation to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and related resolutions and policies of the Party and the state.

Entitled “Raising awareness and promoting community action on water conservation” for the 2026–2028 period, the project marks a three-year partnership between the Viet Nam Student Support and Development Centre (VSDS) under the VNUS, and TCP Group. The initiative seeks to spread awareness and promote practical solutions for water conservation across Viet Nam.

The project contributes directly to the implementation of the national strategy, which has set the target that by 2030, 65% of the rural population will have access to clean water meeting national quality standards, with a minimum supply of 60 litres per person per day.

Under the cooperation agreement, activities will be rolled out in a coordinated manner, ranging from communication and education to practical applications, focusing on four key areas. These include communication and education to raise awareness of water protection and the importance of water resources to health, daily life, and socio-economic development among pupils, students, and local communities.

The project will also promote youth- and student-led practical actions in schools and communities to protect water resources, reduce pollution, and spread green lifestyles. In addition, a youth network for clean water action will be established, connecting organisations, schools, and localities in sustainable environmental protection activities, while also nurturing technology-based initiatives and circular water-use models proposed by students.

From 2026, a series of workshops will be organised to encourage behavioural change and water-saving practices among young people. Clean water supply systems will be donated to disadvantaged and border communes, while equipment and support will be provided to youth teams to enhance community-based activities.

Nguyen Minh Triet, Standing Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and President of the VNUS, stressed that supporting students to improve awareness and take action to protect water resources is an urgent task that is essential towards equipping the younger generation with a proper understanding of the vital role of water.

Through the project, the VNUS hopes to foster responsibility, promote sustainable behaviour and mobilise the creativity and social commitment of young people in protecting and using water resources effectively.
