Nicaragua seeks to further boost cooperation with Viet Nam

On the occasion of the 47th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista People's Revolution (July 19, 1979–2026), the Embassy of Nicaragua in Viet Nam, in coordination with the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), held a friendship gathering in Ha Noi on July 13, reaffirming both countries' commitment to further nurturing and developing their longstanding traditional ties.

Speaking at the event, Mario Armengol Campos, Ambassador of Nicaragua to Viet Nam, affirmed that Viet Nam occupies a special place in Nicaragua's foreign policy, noting that it was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Nicaragua's revolutionary government following the victory of the Sandinista People's Revolution in 1979.

According to the Ambassador, bilateral relations have been built on a foundation of solidarity, mutual trust and mutual respect, and have continued to deepen through high-level exchanges, cooperation between the two Parties and the two States, as well as expanding people-to-people exchanges.

The Ambassador emphasised that Nicaragua's reopening of its Embassy in Ha Noi in 2024 marked a highly significant milestone, reflecting the continued strengthening and development of relations between Nicaragua and Viet Nam, which will continue to expand in the years ahead.

He added one of our key priorities is to further enhance cooperation in diplomacy, politics, the economy and trade, while promoting people-to-people exchanges. This will strengthen the bonds between our two peoples, uphold the spirit of international solidarity, preserve our traditional friendship and, above all, continue to nurture the relationship founded on the longstanding ties between the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the Sandinista National Liberation Front.

The Ambassador also expressed his hope that Viet Nam would soon establish an embassy in Nicaragua, believing that such a step would provide fresh momentum for deeper and more effective bilateral cooperation.

For his part, Dong Vi Cuong, Vice President of the VUFO, stressed that the victory of the Sandinista People's Revolution was not only a historic milestone for Nicaragua but also a source of inspiration for movements around the world striving for peace, national independence and social progress.

He stressed the shared historical experiences of both nations in their struggles for national independence have provided the foundation for the enduring solidarity and friendship between the peoples of Viet Nam and Nicaragua over nearly half a century.

Viet Nam and Nicaragua established their diplomatic ties on September 3, 1979. Over the past five decades, their bilateral ties have continued to strengthen on the basis of traditional friendship, solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation, laying the groundwork for more substantive and practical cooperation in the coming years.
