The visit took place as the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Viet Nam and Nicaragua continue to make positive progress, while underscoring the need to make relations between the two Parties more substantive, effective and in-depth.
The delegation’s working programme extended beyond political ties to cover a broad range of areas, including Party building, external relations, parliamentary cooperation, trade, investment, tourism, personnel training and communications.
In trade and investment, the two sides discussed trade potential, the investment environment and policies, export products, legal frameworks and opportunities for market expansion. They agreed on the need to bring bilateral trade and investment to a level commensurate with the strong political foundation of relations between the two countries.
Regarding tourism cooperation, the two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen training cooperation, exchange experience in tourism management, promote their respective countries’ images and attract business investment in the tourism sector. Both sides agreed that while trade and investment forge economic links, tourism can serve as a direct bridge connecting people and cultures and fostering greater mutual understanding.
In parliamentary cooperation, the Vietnamese delegation met with leaders of the National Assembly and members of the Nicaragua-Viet Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group to exchange views on bilateral relations, the work of the two countries’ legislative bodies and measures to strengthen cooperation between their National Assemblies. The two sides expressed their intention for the two legislatures to continue supporting the implementation of cooperation agreements between the two Parties and States.
A major political highlight of the visit was the signing of a Cooperation Agreement for the 2026-2030 period between the CPV and the Sandinista National Liberation Front. The agreement provides an important additional foundation for strengthening Party-to-Party ties, thereby contributing to closer relations between the two States and peoples.
The agreement reaffirms the principles of respect for independence and sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, while establishing a framework for expanding practical cooperation.
Under the agreement, the two sides will continue to strengthen exchanges of delegations at all levels; organise meetings, seminars and discussions; share experience in Party building, governance and national development; and promote personnel training, particularly for young and mid-level officials.
Cooperation will also be expanded to such areas as history, ideology, mass mobilisation, political communications and international relations. The two sides will also strengthen coordination at multilateral forums of communist, workers’, left-wing and progressive parties and forces, as well as within regional mechanisms and forums of Global South countries.
Notably, the agreement places considerable emphasis on economic cooperation. The two Parties encourage stronger cooperation in legislation and trade, as well as increased exchanges among cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises, business associations, state-owned enterprises and joint ventures. Manufacturing, renewable energy, agriculture and export processing zones have been identified as promising areas for future cooperation.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Le Hong Quang affirmed that Viet Nam has always attached importance to and wishes to work with Nicaragua to further consolidate solidarity, friendship and cooperation, while standing together in efforts for peace, independence, sovereignty and development.
The signing of the agreement fulfilled a key objective of the visit while providing an additional foundation for the two Parties to implement cooperation programmes in the coming years, contributing to increasingly substantive and in-depth Viet Nam-Nicaragua relations.
