After winning 2-1 in the first leg at Viet Tri Stadium, Vietnam continued to beat Thailand 3-2 at Rajamangala Stadium, becoming champions with an aggregate score of 5-3, securing their third ASEAN title.

This is also the second time that Vietnam have stopped an opponent attempting to win three consecutive championships. Previously, the Golden Star Warriors eliminated defending champions Singapore in the 2008 semi-finals.

Additionally, Vietnam set a record for the most wins in an ASEAN Cup with seven victories. In the tournament’s 29-year history, no team has achieved this in a single tournament, not even Thailand.

The team finished the championship with 20 goals, the second-best scoring record in their tournament history. However, this is the first time Vietnam has had two players score four or more goals, namely Xuan Son and Tien Linh.

Kim Sang-sik’s side also achieved the highest goal difference in Vietnamese national team history (+14, with 20 goals scored and six conceded).

Vietnam’s previous record was set in the last tournament at +13 (16 goals scored and 3 conceded).

The tournament record remains at +16, set by Indonesia in 2004, despite not winning the championship.
