The figures represented a decrease of 16.5% in the number of enterprises, an increase of 13.8% in registered capital, and a decline of 16.6% in the number of employees compared with April 2026.
Compared with the same period in 2025, the number of newly established enterprises rose by 12.5%, registered capital increased by 79.3%, while the number of employees decreased by 22.7%. The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in May reached 16.5 billion VND, up 36.4% from the previous month and 59.3% from the same period in 2025. In addition, 9,100 enterprises resumed operations, down 3.9% from the previous month but up 13.6% year on year.
In May 2026, 6,746 enterprises registered to temporarily suspend operations for a fixed period, down 23.9% month on month but up 13.9% year on year. Meanwhile, 8,082 enterprises ceased operations to wait for dissolution procedures, up 50% and 23.7%, respectively; and 3,831 enterprises completed dissolution procedures, up 10.3% and 100.7%.
In the first five months of 2026, more than 94,800 new enterprises were registered nationwide, with total registered capital of nearly 1,066.3 trillion VND and 432,800 registered employees, up 42.1 % in the number of enterprises and 64.8% in registered capital, but down 4.7% in the number of employees compared with the same period in 2025. The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise in the five-month period reached 11.2 billion VND, up 16% year on year.
In addition, nearly 47,800 enterprises resumed operations, up 6.1% against the same period in 2025, bringing the total number of newly established and returning enterprises in the first five months of 2026 to more than 142,600, an increase of 27.6% year on year. On average, 28,500 enterprises were newly established or resumed operations each month.
By economic sector, 978 newly established enterprises were recorded in agriculture, forestry and fisheries in the first five months of 2026, up 56% year on year; nearly 23,300 in industry and construction, up 52.7%; and nearly 70,600 in services, up 38.7%.
During the same period, 78,800 enterprises registered to temporarily suspend operations for a fixed period, up 5.7% year on year; more than 31,400 ceased operations to wait for dissolution procedures, up 14.2%; and more than 19,000 completed dissolution procedures, up 99.1%. On average, 25,900 enterprises withdrew from the market each month.
