The positive achievements recorded in recent years have laid an important foundation for sustaining the steady momentum of bilateral ties and moving towards an even more intensive phase of cooperation.
The traditional friendship between Viet Nam and India has been built on solid foundations, including shared cultural and artistic affinities. This bond has been strengthened over time, weathering global fluctuations. The two countries have consistently extended sincere and steadfast support to one another, from the difficult years of their struggles for national independence to the subsequent periods of national construction and development. India remains one of Viet Nam’s trusted partners, regularly expressing support for its development path and policies at regional and international forums.
A major milestone was reached in 2016 when the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ushering in a new phase of deeper and more wide-ranging cooperation across all sectors, bringing tangible benefits to their peoples. India has consistently expressed its desire for this long-standing partnership to continue flourishing, contributing to both nations’ development goals. For Viet Nam, India stands as one of its leading Comprehensive Strategic Partners in the region.
With strong political trust, enduring friendship, and sustained efforts and determination from successive generations of leaders and citizens, bilateral cooperation has achieved notable results across multiple fields. Economic cooperation has continued to grow and remains a key pillar of the relationship. In 2025, bilateral trade reached 16.46 billion USD, up 10.5% compared with 2024.
There is considerable potential for further economic collaboration. India, the world’s fourth-largest economy, remains a key driver of global growth and an important link in global supply chains. Meanwhile, Viet Nam has emerged as a dynamic economy with sustained growth and an increasingly prominent international standing.
The two economies are seen as complementary, opening up opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, trade, investment and high-quality services. Collaboration in science and technology has been strengthened, particularly in innovation, robotics, start-ups, nuclear energy and biotechnology, supported by the establishment of a joint subcommittee.
Cooperation in defence and security, science and technology, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges has also continued to expand. In the cultural sphere, India has supported Viet Nam in restoring Cham tower groups at the My Son heritage site. Cultural ties have been further reinforced through cooperation in religion, cinema, tourism and education, as well as activities such as International Yoga Day, serving as important bridges to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.
The year 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This milestone offers an opportunity not only to reflect on a significant phase of cooperation but also to open up new prospects for achieving further successes.
With strong political will from leaders and shared aspirations among the peoples of Viet Nam and India, the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is expected to continue developing robustly, effectively and more profoundly in the years ahead, meeting future development goals and orientations.
