As per the procedures, the NA Standing Committee will present a list of presidential nominees to parliament, whose members will then discuss the list in groups.

On the morning of May 22, the NA Standing Committee will deliver a report on the opinions of NA deputies on the nomination list.

Parliament will then vote to approve the list and conduct the election of state president by secret ballot.

After the vote counting committee announces the results, the National Assembly will discuss and approve the resolution on electing the new state president.

Finally, the newly elected president will be sworn in and have an inaugural address, which will be broadcast live via radio and television.

Earlier, the Party Central Committee reached a broad consensus on nominating General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, for the post of state president.

On May 20 — the first working day of the 7th plenary session — the National Assembly elected Tran Thanh Man as its chairman for the 2021-2026 tenure.
