Vietnam’s top tennis player Do Minh Quan made an impressive return after a three-year absence from the tournament by winning two straight sets against No. 3 seed Le Quoc Khanh in the men’s singles final to claim the championship title.

The day before, Quoc Khanh and Quang Huy trounced Tri Nguyen and Quang Tri 6-4, 6-2 in the final to dominate the men’s doubles event.

On the women’s side, the country’s top female player, Huynh Phuong Dai Trang, failed to win the women’s singles title after losing to Thailand’s Areeporn Wanichayapanich 3-1 (2-6, 7-5, 6-3) in the decisive match.

With the championship title, Minh Quan received the trophy and VND 30 million (US$1,440) in cash, while Quoc Khanh and Quang Huy each took home VND 25 million (US$1,200).

The 11th annual tournament, which began on December 3, drew the participation of more than 400 tennis players, who competed in professional, semi-professional and amateur divisions.
