PM sends condolences to Laos over helicopter crash

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has sent a message of condolence to his Lao counterpart Thongsing Thammavong after a Lao military helicopter crashed on July 27.

In the message, PM Dung extended his deepest sympathies to the Party, State, Government, Army and people of Laos as well as the families of the deceased officials.

The Mi-17 helicopter transporting four crew members and 19 passengers crashed in Luangphanxay village, Longchaeng district, Xaysomboun province en route from Vientiane to the northern provinces of Xieng Khuang and Huaphan, the Lao Defence Ministry reported.

The plane took off from the capital at 13:10 pm on July 27 and sometime later lost contact with flight control.

The crash site was located on July 29 and the remains of all 23 victims were recovered by July 30.

An investigation is underway to find out the cause of the accident, however it is assumed to be due to bad weather.
