The event was organised by the Political Academy (Ministry of National Defence), in collaboration with the Vietnam Coast Guard and the Su that (Truth) National Political Publishing House, as part of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025).

Fifty years ago, under the astute leadership of the Party Central Committee, combined with the courageous, intelligent, and creative spirit of the Vietnamese military and people, and with support from international friends and peace-loving forces worldwide, the Vietnamese people’s collective strength and aspiration for independence and national unity culminated in the great victory of the Spring Offensive of 1975. The pinnacle of this offensive was the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which led to the complete liberation of the South and national reunification.

This victory is recorded as one of the most brilliant chapters in our nation’s history, symbolising the triumph of revolutionary heroism, the unwavering belief that “nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”, and the courage and wisdom of the Vietnamese people. It stands as one of the greatest feats of the 20th century, bearing significant international and epochal implications.

At the seminar, Associate Professor Dr Vu Trong Lam, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Su that (Truth) National Political Publishing House, emphasised that the Vietnamese people’s unwavering aspiration for independence, freedom, and national reunification, combined with the Party’s self-reliant and strategic resistance policy, maximised the national strength. This strength encompassed material and spiritual resources, deeply rooted in the country’s millennia-old patriotic tradition, leading to victory in the resistance war against US imperialism.

With over 80 research papers presented, experts analysed the political and spiritual factors behind the victory, its historical significance, and its enduring value. Discussions also focused on lessons learned, reinforcing political-ideological education, and strengthening the military’s role in national defence against contemporary threats.
