He made the assertion while addressing nearly 2,000 lecturers, officials and students at the Lao National University in Vientiane on November 25, as part of his ongoing official visit to Laos.

The Party leader underscored that Vietnam would do its best to keep the sacred relationship stable forever.

Looking through the long history of ties between the two Parties and States, he said that Vietnam and Laos had always seen each other as faithful comrades and friends, walking hand in hand together and giving each other whole-hearted material and spiritual support through the most difficult periods.

During the past 30 years of Renewal, the two countries have fully inherited and promoted the sound relationship established by the late Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Kaysone Phomvihane and nurtured by generations of leaders of both countries.

General Secretary Trong asserted that important achievements in bilateral ties had contributed to the construction and maintenance of the peaceful regional and international environment, creating favourable conditions for the renovation, socioeconomic development and defence of each country, enhancing the position of both Vietnam and Laos on the regional and world arena.

As the current regional and global situations have presented challenges and opportunities for the respective countries’ construction and defence, Vietnam and Laos have made important achievements in various fields, proving the correctness of the paths for development that their respective Parties have chosen, the Party leader noted.

He stated that both the Twelfth Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Tenth Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party had reaffirmed the consistent goal of national independence and socialism, as well as the determination to continue speeding up the Renewal process in a comprehensive and synchronous manner.

Expressing his sentiments towards the youth of both countries, he stressed that the youth is the backbone of a country and the pioneering force of its revolution, as well as a great part of society, the creator of its future and the future owner of the nation.

He urged the youth in both nations to work hard to improve their knowledge and morality, becoming a high-quality workforce that plays a leading role in the success of the industrialisation and modernisation of each country, as well as the development of stronger special ties between Vietnam and Laos in the new period.

Leaders put strong trust in the youth, he declared, expressing his hope that the youth would increase exchanges between the two fraternal countries while maintaining and promoting the priceless treasure of the faithful and pure ties between Vietnam and Laos.

Founded in 1996, the National University of Laos is the only national university in the Southeast Asian country. It offers courses in eleven majors, including economics and business administration, architecture, engineering, agriculture and education.

On the occasion of the event, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong presented 30 sets of computers to the university.

Earlier the same day, the Party leader and the Vietnamese delegations laid a wreath at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument in Vientiane and visited the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum and President Souphanouvong Commemorative House.
