Friendship border exchange opens in Hanoi

The third friendship border exchange programme opened in Hanoi on August 25.

Organised by the High Command of Border Guards, the event was attended by National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and head of the PCC’s Communication and Education Commission, Vo Van Thuong; Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation, Truong Thi Mai; Minister of Defence, General Ngo XuanLich; and Minister of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General To Lam; together with representatives from ministries and sectors and delegates from China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand.

Speaking at the programme, NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan warmly welcomed the distinguished guests from the five countries, while highly appreciating the initiative of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Defence, and the High Command of Border Guards to actively promote defence foreign affairs and border guard cooperation with the neighbouring countries in the region.

She also expressed her belief that the border security forces in the Greater Mekong Sub region would continue to cooperate in a more effective manner and join hands to effectively implement the mechanism of defence and security cooperation in the region.

The third friendship border exchange programme, held on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, the 60th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Border Guards (March 3, 1959) and the 30th anniversary of the All People’s Border Guard Day (March 3, 1989) aimed to enhance external defence affairs in order to meet modern demands.

It also reviewed the joint work to seriously adhere to border management mechanisms and agreements, especially those regarding the war against drugs, human trafficking, and trade fraud crimes,search and rescue, the prevention of natural disaster impacts,environmental protection, and the models of twin border stations and communities.

During the exchange programme, they also share stories of their tasks in safeguarding border, sea, and island sovereignty and security, defence external affairs between Vietnam and the regional countries, and mutual support in border construction and defence.
