HCM City celebrates 70th anniversary of National Day

The administration of Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on August 31 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day and receive the Ho Chi Minh Order.

The event was attended by Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City's Party Committee Le Thanh Hai.

At the ceremony, delegates reviewed the struggle for national independence 70 years ago, particularly the success of the August Revolution and the September 2, 1945 event to found the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City's People's Committee Le Hoang Quan said that 70 years after Independence Day, the Party Committee and people of Ho Chi Minh City have ceaselessly endeavoured to build the city into the nation's leading economic hub and a pioneer in the reform process, contributing to building a civilised and prosperous country.

The people and authorities of the city will make every effort to develop the city, contributing to the cause of national construction and defence, he added.

On the occasion, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan presented the Ho Chi Minh Order (for the second time) to the Party Committee and people of Ho Chi Minh City for outstanding contributions to the national construction and defence.
