Ho Chi Minh City and the RoK promote people exchange

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Tat Thanh Cang hosted a reception for the President of the Korean Foundation Lee Si-hyung in Ho Chi Minh City on November 23.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy Secretary Tat Thanh Cang spoke highly of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea during the past 25 years, in which there is a strong and growing cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the RoK.

The diplomatic relations and economic cooperation between the two sides achieved in the recent past are derived from people-to-people diplomacy and cultural exchange between the two countries, Cang said, adding that Vietnam and the RoK share a lot of cultural similarities, through the exchange activities, people of both countries will have many opportunities to learn about each other’s cultural characteristics and values.

Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular have learned a lot from the experience of the RoK in such fields as executive management and smart urban construction, he noted.

The Deputy Secretary also hoped that the RoK would further support Ho Chi Minh City in building new-styled rural areas, high- tech application in production, as well as building agricultural cooperatives.

For his part, President of the Korean Foundation Lee Si-hyung expressed his pleasure at the economic cooperation between the RoK and Vietnam through many important achievements after 25 years of establishing diplomatic relations.

In addition to economic cooperation, the two sides should also focus on developing people-to-people diplomacy through cultural exchanges, he added.

The RoK has pledged to propose more initiatives to further develop the bilateral relations, especially the two countries’ people-to-people exchanges, he noted, saying that the RoK will support the development of Korean-related majors in universities and colleges in Vietnam in the time to come.
