He congratulated Thailand on the significant economic achievements that the country has obtained over the past few years, thanking the Thai Government and the PM for their efforts to accelerate Vietnam-Thailand relations across various fields, including economics, defence, security and labour.
Bang affirmed Vietnam’s efforts towards settling the issue of illegal fishing in a definitive manner, whilst calling on the Thai Government to continue their humane treatment of the Vietnamese fishermen under their detention.
Vietnam highly appreciated Thailand’s role in subregional cooperation mechanisms, the diplomat said, expressing his hopes that the Thai PM would participate in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit, scheduled for late March in Hanoi.
For his part, PM Prayuth Chan-ocha voiced his delight at Vietnam U23’s exceptional run at the AFC U23 Championship 2018 in China, hailing the team’s second-place finish as a historic victory for both Vietnamese and Southeast Asian football.
The host thanked Vietnam for creating favourable conditions for Thai investors, affirming Thailand’s willingness to facilitate the penetration of Vietnamese goods into the Thai market and create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community living in Thailand.
He called for closer cooperation between the two countries in dealing with illegal fishing and dividing the markets for farm produce, such as rice and rubber, for the mutual benefit of both sides. The PM also suggested that the two countries, together with Laos and Cambodia, should facilitate coordination and strengthen their sea and roadway connectivity.
