ASEAN diplomats speak highly of Vietnam’s role in Mexico

At the handover ceremony, the ambassadors of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines spoke highly of Vietnam’s important role in strengthening ASEAN’s relations with the host country as the Chair of ACMC in the first half of the year.

Counsellor in charge of ASEAN at the Vietnamese Embassy Tran Thanh Tam reviewed ACMC’s activities during the January-June period, including the organisation of seminars and meetings with Mexican officials aiming to enhance the friendship and solidarity among the ASEAN community, as well as facilitating mutual understanding between ASEAN and Mexico.

Taking the ACMC Chairmanship, Indonesian Ambassador Cosmas Cheppy Tri Prakoso Wartono pledged to do his utmost to accelerate ACMC’s operations, thus further boosting ASEAN-Mexico ties across various spheres, especially in trade, investment, tourism, culture and the economy.

In their remarks, the ASEAN diplomats in Mexico affirmed the significance of solidifying intra-bloc solidarity and stepping up ASEAN’s multi-faceted relations with Mexico, contributing to promoting the bloc’s image and prestige.

According to the Mexican Ministry of Economy, trade revenues between Mexico and the ASEAN countries of Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam enjoyed an average annual growth of 10% and hit US$9.242 billion in the first four months of 2019.
