ADSOM Working Group convenes video conference in Hanoi

The ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG) held a video conference in Hanoi on May 12, with Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen Nguyen Chi Vinh in attendance.

The meeting focused on discussing ASEAN defence cooperation matters in 2020, preparations for an online epidemic response drill of ASEAN military medical forces, and some new initiatives in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM).

Delegates also reviewed the 2020-2022 working plans of the ADMM and the ADMM Plus Experts’ Working Groups, as well as preparations for the ADSOM’s upcoming video conference.

At the meeting, the head of the ADSOM WG Vietnam touched on issues concerning the Vietnamese Defence Ministry’s efforts in fighting COVID-19, such as using military barracks as quarantine venues, researching and producing COVID-19 test kits, managing and supervising border and border gate areas, and cooperating closely with countries in sharing experiences and providing support in the fight against the pandemic.
