The event was attended by Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and Minister of Information and Communications and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education Nguyen Manh Hung.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Press Department Luu Dinh Phuc, said the predecessor of the Press Department today is the Ministry of Information and Propaganda, established on August 28, 1945.
Following many times of merging, splitting and renaming, on July 16, 2003, Minister of Culture and Information Pham Quang Nghi signed decision No. 22/2003/QD-VHTT to establish the Press Department.

Over the past 20 years, the organisational structure of the Department has been divided into many different units, and has gradually been completed. The scope, management subjects, functions and tasks of the Department have been expanded, with many new and more important responsibilities.
During the process of construction and development, the Press Department has made important contributions to institutional building, creating breakthroughs for the development and management of the press, making an important contribution to changing the face of the national press in a professional, humane and modern manner.
During the development process, especially since 2019, the state management of information content has made an important contribution to creating social consensus, trust, and has been driving force for the socio-economic development of the country.
Director of the Press Department Luu Dinh Phuc affirmed that the staff of the Press Department is determined to overcome any difficulties, innovate, create breakthroughs and successfully complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and leaders of the Ministry.
On this occasion, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan awarded the second-class Labour Order to the Press Department for its outstanding achievements from 2016 to 2020, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the nation.
