Programme honours the quintessence of Ao Dai

The Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) Central Committee organised an art programme "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Ao Dai" on October 18.

As part of activities to mark the 92nd anniversary of the Vietnam Women's Union and Vietnam Women's Day (October 20), the event was attended by former Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh; Member of the Party Central Committee cum VWU President Ha Thi Nga; and representatives of female leaders of the Party, State and related ministries, branches and international organisations.

Speaking at the programme, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the VWU Central Committee, said that the VWU initiated and launched the "Ao Dai Week" movement in 2019, with the event being held annually in the first week of March to honour the Vietnamese Ao Dai, with a variety of activities such as: Ao Dai performances, Ao Dai contests, and presenting Ao Dai to disadvantaged women in the locality.

The art programme "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Ao Dai" is a combination of special musical performances honouring the image of Vietnamese women along with Ao Dai performances.

With the participation of artists and actors of the Vietnam National Drama Theatre, the Ao Dai collection of designer Do Trinh Hoai Nam and other female designers.

Through the art programme, the VWU wishes to contribute to inspiring the spread of meaningful and positive messages about love, national pride and humanity values.

At the same time, the event also contributed to the values of Ao Dai to soon be recognised as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and World Cultural Heritage.
