Programme honours Vietnam – Laos solidarity and friendship

A programme was held at the Hanoi Opera House on August 29 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations and 45 years since the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.

The event was jointly by the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA)'s Committee for Foreign Affairs, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, and the NA’s television channel.

The programme was arranged in five parts, namely ‘The time-honoured friendship’, ‘President Ho Chi Minh – the founder of Vietnam – Laos relations’, ‘The Vietnam – Laos Alliance: A symbol of the great bilateral relations and special solidarity’, ‘Cooperation in education and training’, and ‘The great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation.’

The programme aimed to honour the special value of the Vietnam-Laos relations, while educating younger generations of the two countries on the bilateral great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

Participants at the event were entertained with an assortment of performances praising the special bond between the two nations throughout the history.

They also had the opportunity to listen to the sharing of historical witnesses, including 103-year-old Major General Huynh Dac Huong – former commander and political commissar of the Vietnamese volunteer army in Laos; Dr Singthong Singhapannha – a senior researcher on Vietnam – Laos relations; and Tao Van Thai – a former member of staff at the Vietnamese Embassy in Laos.

In addition, there were also screenings of documentaries highlighting the bilateral ties, the sentiment of the Lao people toward President Ho Chi Minh, and memories of former Vietnamese volunteer soldiers in Laos.
