Removing financial and digital workforce bottlenecks to drive a private sector breakthroughs

The Academy of Finance — in collaboration with Kasetsart University (Thailand), Swinburne University (Australia), the National Institute for Finance (NIEF), and the Academy for Development Policy — on September 18 organised the 8th International Conference titled “Finance and Accounting for the Promotion of Sustainable Development in the Private Sector.”

To date, over 940,000 private enterprises are in operation, contributing approximately 50% of the GDP, over 30% of state budget revenue, and accounting for about 82% of the nation's total workforce. These figures underscore the pivotal role of the private sector in the country’s development.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Dao Tung, President of the Academy of Finance, acknowledged the contributions of the private enterprise sector. However, he also raised the issue of the numerous challenges facing the sector, questioning what is hinders its transition from quantitative to qualitative growth.

According to the Associate Professor, the answer in most cases lies in financial capacity, the quality of accounting and auditing, and the level of corporate transparency.

The conference comprised six thematic sessions that providing in-depth analysis of key issues and proposing research-based solutions to foster the rapid and sustainable development of the private sector, aiming to achieve the goals set out in the Socio-Economic Development Strategy for the 2025–2035 period.

The conference clarified key bottlenecks while offering a comprehensive perspective and practical solutions — spanning finance, digital technology, and circular models — to help the private sector achieve rapid and sustainable breakthroughs.
