The monument, occupying an area of 8,300 square metres, stands as a vivid symbol of the special solidarity between the two Parties, the two States, the armed forces and the peoples of Viet Nam and Laos.
After nearly six months of construction, funded with more than 1.3 million USD, the project to upgrade and renovate the Laos-Viet Nam fighting alliance monument in Xaysomboun Province has been completed and handed over to the provincial authorities for management.
The centrepiece of the project is an 11-metre-tall monument, in front of which stand two statues of a Lao and a Vietnamese soldier, each 3.2 metres high and painted in radiant gold.
On either side are relief panels depicting scenes of the Laos-Viet Nam fighting alliance.
At the ceremony, Major General Monekham Duongsachanh, Political Commissar of the Xaysomboun Provincial Military Command, stated that the renovation of the monument is of exceptional significance.
He affirmed that Xaysomboun Province will use the site to hold repatriation ceremonies for the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts.
The monument will also serve as a venue for commemorative activities honouring the tremendous contributions of Vietnamese and Lao martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the independence of both nations on the countries’ important anniversaries.
