The programme on Hon Khoai Island began with a solemn ceremony where Minister Le Hoai Trung, members of the Government working delegation, and leaders of Ca Mau Province offered flowers and incense at the Hon Khoai Uprising Memorial. They paid tribute to the immense sacrifices of the heroic martyrs and previous generations who fought bravely and sacrificed their lives for the cause of national liberation and reunification.
Immediately after the ceremony, the delegation inspected key projects currently under construction on Hon Khoai Island. While inspecting coastal erosion on the island, Minister Le Hoai Trung received detailed briefings from construction units and relevant authorities on project progress, technical measures to ensure construction safety, disaster mitigation efforts, and the protection of the island's landscape and ecological environment.
Following the inspection, the Minister stressed the special importance of making full use of Hon Khoai Island's potential and advantages. He asserted that strategies for planning and developing the island's marine economy must always be closely aligned with the task of strengthening national defence and security in the South-Western Sea region.
During a visit to the Hon Khoai Border Guard Station, under the Ca Mau Border Guard Command, the delegation received a comprehensive report on the management and protection of maritime border sovereignty, the results of border diplomacy activities, and the particular advantages and challenges faced by personnel stationed on the remote island.
Addressing the working session, Minister Le Hoai Trung, on behalf of the Party and State leadership, acknowledged, praised, and warmly commended the unity, determination, and remarkable achievements of Border Guard officers and soldiers, other armed forces, engineers, and employees serving on the island.
The Minister affirmed that the Party and the State consistently attach special and comprehensive importance to safeguarding maritime and island sovereignty and border security, while enhancing both the material and spiritual well-being of military personnel and local people serving on the nation's frontline.
Highlighting the new circumstances, the Minister called on all forces to continue fortifying the combined strength of the entire political system, enhancing combat readiness, and firmly managing and safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands during the new stage of development.
On the occasion of the visit, Minister Le Hoai Trung presented 10 meaningful gifts to outstanding officers, soldiers, workers, and employees stationed on the island.
On the same occasion, Lieutenant General Nguyen Ba Luc, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People's Army, presented three gifts from the Ministry of National Defence to units, enterprises, and groups of workers operating on the island, encouraging them to work with dedication and determination to overcome every challenge.
