Southern Food Festival opens in Tra Vinh Province

The People's Committee of Tra Vinh Province opened the Southern Cuisine Festival, Cultural and Tourism Week and Ok Om Bok Festival in the province on November 2, with the participation of more than 1,000 local people along with domestic and foreign tourists.

Coming to the Southern Cuisine Festival, Cultural and Tourism Week, visitors have a chance to participate in activities, including: a space featuring folk cake and cuisine of Tra Vinh Province; a seminar on tourism linkages; organising survey delegations to introduce new tourist destinations in Tra Vinh Province; rural industry and trade promotion fairs; and a fair to introduce and honour OCOP products and craft village products of Tra Vinh Province.

In addition, there are booths displaying typical products of Khmer people from districts, towns and cities in the province; the first Khmer dance festival of Tra Vinh Province 2022; as well as many exhibitions, sports and contests.

Ok Om Bok Festival bears the bold traditional culture of Khmer people in Tra Vinh Province.

Ok-Om-Bok, a moon worshipping ritual performed by the Khmer ethnic group, is one of the three main festivals they celebrate every year. The Khmer traditionally believe that the moon is a God who controls the weather and crops throughout the year. The festival takes place at the full moon in the 10th lunar month.

At the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Tra Vinh Provincial People's Committee Le Thanh Binh emphasised that the events aim to promote and introduce to people at home and abroad about the province's cultural and its potentials and advantages in tourism.

At the same time, the province also welcomes businessmen to learn, survey, to invest in developing Tra Vinh tourism in a sustainable manner. As planned, the events will take place from now until the end of November 8.
