Speaking at the opening ceremony, Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture’s launch of the special exhibition “National Treasures – Heritage in the Heart of Da Nang” is a highly meaningful activity, expressing the love and pride of Da Nang people for the nation’s cultural heritage. It also affirms the city’s role in the preservation and promotion of Vietnamese cultural values.
Visitors will have the opportunity to directly admire 14 original artefacts and 2 replicas. The remaining 3 treasures, as they are associated with relics and due to conservation requirements, will be introduced through documents and a set of images exhibited simultaneously.
The event not only honours the cultural and historical value of the 19 treasures but also affirms the role of heritage in the sustainable development of Da Nang – a place where the vibrant past and the present are connected in the journey of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of Viet Nam.
Through the significance and value of the 19 national treasures, the exhibition presents the portrait of a new Da Nang City with expanded geographical space, a land that has produced, gathered and interacted with numerous cultures such as Sa Huynh, Dong Son, and ancient kingdoms such as Champa and Dai Viet.
Two Dong Son cultural treasures from the Hoang Long collection, consisting of a Dong Son bronze drum and a Dong Son bronze jar, vividly demonstrate the bronze casting techniques and the level of civilisation of ancient Viet peoples from the 3rd to the 1st century BC; while two treasures from the Sa Huynh culture, the Lai Nghi gold jewellery collection and the Lai Nghi agate animal-shaped bead, belong to the collection of the Da Nang Museum.
Notably, 15 Champa cultural treasures from the collections of the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture (12 artefacts), the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board (2 artefacts) and the Da Nang Museum (1 artefact) are lively masterpieces that reflect the continuity in the development, integration and cultural adaptation of the central region from the 7th to the 13th century.
The special exhibition “National Treasures – Heritage in the Heart of Da Nang” runs until December 25.
