PM says hosting DPRK-US summit a big success for Vietnam

Hosting the recent summit between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States of America (USA) was a big success for Vietnam, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stated, while chairing a regular government meeting in Hanoi on March 1.

The position of Vietnam as well as the country’s careful organisation of the event were recognised and appreciated by the two leaders and the international community, PM Phuc said.

Despite short notice for preparations, Vietnam did its best to organise the summit and ensured absolute security and safety, he stressed.

Vietnam promoted its image as a peace-loving country with various accomplishments in reforms and international integration, he said.

The Southeast Asian country also took the occasion to show international friends local food and friendly and hospitable people, he added.

Although the two sides did not reach an agreement, this is an opportunity to look towards positive results in the future regarding promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula, the PM said.
