Established five months after the August Revolution in 1945, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the sector has deployed a range of sport and physical activities to contribute to improving Vietnamese people’s health.
In recent years, the sector has recorded positive results in the sports arena. Currently, with a focus on traditional sports in the Olympics, Vietnam has initially achieved encouraging results at the SEA Games and international sports tournaments.
Physical training and sports for people with disabilities have also been encouraged, receiving further investment and becoming extensive movements among the strata.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam praised the sectors achievements over the last 70 years.
He emphasised that from the early days of its establishment, the sector has mobilised the thoughts expressed in the call on the entire people to regularly exercise by President Ho Chi Minh to build sports movements, contributing to improving people's health and national construction and defence.
During the Doi Moi period, the sector advised the Party and State to promulgate and implement guidelines and policies on sports and physical training to improve Vietnamese health and stature.
The deputy PM urged the sector to fulfill the tasks entrusted by the Party and State to care for people’s health.
At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State, Politburo member and Head of Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai awarded the first-class Independence Order for the sector in recognition of its contributions to national development and defence over the last 70 years.
