This is the first exchange of delegations between the leaders of the two countries’ legislative bodies, and also the first overseas visit by Speaker Mazen Turki El Qadi since taking office. The visit demonstrates the strong determination of the Jordanian Royal Court, Government and House of Representatives to promote comprehensive relations with Viet Nam, including parliamentary cooperation.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is a Middle Eastern country with stable socio-political conditions and is making efforts to implement a 10-year “Economic Modernisation Vision” strategy, focusing on sustainable and efficient economic reform.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations on August 9, 1980, Viet Nam and Jordan have strengthened their friendship and cooperation across many fields. The two sides have great potential for cooperation in political-diplomatic affairs, the economy, and defence and security.
In recent years, bilateral cooperation has been strongly promoted, particularly with the first official visit to Viet Nam by King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan in November, 2025. This was the first exchange of visits at the level of Head of State/Government between the two countries, opening a new phase of deeper, more substantive and effective relations with many positive outcomes. The two countries regularly support each other at regional and international forums.
Two-way trade turnover in 2025 reached nearly 237 million USD, of which Viet Nam exported more than 232 million USD, mainly agricultural and aquatic products, electronic products and components, fabrics, chemical products, garments and textiles, wood products, plastic products, machinery, equipment and spare parts. Viet Nam imports from Jordan mainly chemicals, fertilisers of various kinds, and gemstones. Viet Nam and Jordan have signed cooperation agreements on air transport and on promoting economic and trade cooperation, among others.
The official visit to Viet Nam by Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jordan Mazen Turki El Qadi takes place just three months after the visit by King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, and shortly after the successful organisation of the 14th National Party Congress, which set out major orientations, objectives and strategic directions of historic significance to successfully realise Viet Nam’s development goals to 2030 and its vision to 2045.
The visit by the Jordanian Speaker contributes to expanding Viet Nam’s diplomatic and development space, creating a substantive shift in Viet Nam’s relations with Jordan in particular and with Middle Eastern countries in general, while also implementing the contents agreed during King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein’s visit to Viet Nam.
Leaders of the two countries will discuss specific measures to expand cooperation in areas of mutual need and strength, particularly in defence and security, the economy, Halal, healthcare, agriculture, education, coastal protection technologies using coral reefs, and others.
The visit also provides an opportunity for the leaders of the two National Assemblies to discuss measures to promote parliamentary cooperation both bilaterally and at international and regional parliamentary forums, thereby enhancing the role of the two legislative bodies in supporting their governments in advancing bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation at multilateral intergovernmental forums and mechanisms.
The official visit to Viet Nam by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Jordan demonstrates Viet Nam’s determination to consistently implement its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and resilience, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralisation and diversification of relations, and proactive, comprehensive, deep and effective international integration. The outcomes of the visit will contribute to the effective implementation of agreements and open up new cooperation opportunities in potential fields, bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries.
