The southern province of Tay Ninh has recovered 519 sets of fallen soldiers' remains in Viet Nam and Cambodia, with most of the DNA sampling completed after 60 days of a nationwide 500-day campaign to speed up the search, as well as the 2025–2026 dry-season recovery mission.

A total of 197 sets of martyrs’ remains have been discovered and recovered at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City as part of a nationwide 500-day campaign to search for, recover, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers.

Some searches do not begin on the battlefield or in a cemetery, but in quiet laboratories. Behind every set of martyrs’ remains lies the tireless work of DNA specialists, striving to preserve the final traces of genetic identity so that a soldier may be returned to his name and family.

Huong Phung Border Station in Quang Tri Province confirmed on July 25 that it had acquired war relics and information about a martyr’s grave, as well as a potential mass burial site of Truong Son soldiers (Unit 559), who died in Laos in 1971–1972.

Authorities in Dien Bien and Dak Lak provinces have stepped up efforts to identify unnamed war martyrs through large-scale DNA sampling as part of the nationwide 500-Day Campaign to recover and identify fallen soldiers ahead of the 79th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27).

The PM urged all-level authorities, sectors, localities, and the public to fully implement relevant Party resolutions and directives as well as preferential policies for revolution contributors, push ahead with the 500-day campaign, expand gratitude movements, accelerate housing support for children of Agent Orange/dioxin victims and strengthen patriotic education.

NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man stressed that caring for martyrs' families, Heroic Mothers, and wounded and sick soldiers has always been regarded as a focal political task, reflecting the nation’s enduring tradition of gratitude towards those who contributed to national independence and reunification.

Director of the General Department of Politics under the Viet Nam People’s Army General Nguyen Trong Nghia on July 11 paid tribute to fallen heroes and martyrs and inspected the ongoing search and recovery operation for martyrs’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on July 6 reaffirmed Viet Nam’s unwavering commitment to locating, recovering and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers, stressing that the mission will continue until all martyrs’ remains are recovered.

More than 1,300 sets of fallen soldiers' remains have been recovered so far, including those from three mass graves, during the first 111 days of the nationwide 500-day campaign to accelerate the search for, recovery and identification of war martyrs, an official said on July 4.

As part of the 500-Day Campaign to accelerate the search for, recovery and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers, expanding international cooperation has been identified as one of the key measures to enhance the effectiveness of this important mission.

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra on June 25 called for extra efforts to speed up the implementation of the nationwide 500-day campaign to search for, recover and identify remains of fallen soldiers, as the country prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day in 2027 (July 27).

Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra has called for closer and more effective cooperation between the Viet Nam Center and Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive (VNCA) at Texas Tech University of the US and the Vietnamese Wartime Accounting Initiative (VWAI) in helping Viet Nam search for and repatriate the remains of fallen soldiers so they can rest in their homeland.

The Ho Chi Minh City Military Command on June 9 announced the establishment of a specialised force tasked with searching for and recovering the remains of fallen soldiers as part of the national “500-day campaign” on martyrs’ remains search, repatriation and identification.

Deputy PM Pham Thi Thanh Tra said the complexity of the work meant relevant agencies need to change their mindset and adopt new methods to achieve better results.

The Ministry of National Defence convened a conference in Ha Noi on April 24 to roll out the peak phase of the 500-day campaign to accelerate the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains.
