Athletes of athletics, pétanque, and swimming consecutively brought home important gold medals on December 12, marking a brilliant day for Viet Nam at the ongoing 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.

Viet Nam will send a 185-member contingent to the 13th ASEAN Para Games, scheduled to take place in Korat, Nakhon Ratchasima province of Thailand, from January 15 to 27, 2026.

Viet Nam’s most recent success in athletics came with a silver and a bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships, which concluded in the Republic of Korea on May 31. However, to achieve sustainable development and rise to the continental and global level, the entire athletics system needs a thorough and well-planned reform.
