In women’s rapid chess (B1 category), Tran Ngoc Loan delivered an outstanding performance to win the individual gold with five points after a series of intense games. Her result, together with contributions from Pham Thi Huong (4 points, 6th place) and Dao Thi Le Xuan (3 points, 9th place), also helped Viet Nam secure the team gold in the B1 category.
In the women’s rapid chess (PI category), Tran Thi Bich Thuy claimed the individual gold with five points from six games. Alongside Doan Thu Huyen (4 points, 4th place) and Nguyen Thi Kieu (3 points, 8th place), Viet Nam also won the team gold in the women’s PI category. Dao Tuan Kiet took the men’s blitz chess gold in the B1 category, and together with his team-mates also secured the men’s team gold in the same event.
Tran Thi Bich Thuy went on to win her second individual gold of the day in women’s blitz chess (PI category), while also playing a leading role in Viet Nam’s women’s team gold in that event. After five competition days, Viet Nam’s chess team has won 15 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals, topping the standings at the Games.
In the pool, Nguyen Van Hanh “opened” Viet Nam’s golden day by taking gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke (SB11 category) with a time of 36.37 seconds. In the men’s 50m breaststroke (S8 category), Vo Huynh Anh Khoa touched first in 34.73 seconds, earning his third gold medal of the Games.
Earlier in the day, Anh Khoa also won silver in the men’s 100m freestyle (S8 category). Vietnam’s female swimmers made their mark as well. Vi Thi Hang won gold in the women’s 50m freestyle (S7 category) with a time of 37.75 seconds. In the women’s 50m breaststroke (SB4–SB5 category), Trinh Thi Bich Nhu added another gold with 54.54 seconds. Overall, Viet Nam’s swimming team have now won 14 gold medals.
In athletics, Vo Van Tung captured gold in the men’s javelin event (F33–F34 category) with a throw of 21.73 metres, while Nguyen Viet Dai took silver with 20.63 metres.
In the 5,000m events, Vu Tien Manh won silver in the T11 category, while Nguyen Van Binh and Nguyen Tung Giang claimed silver and bronze, respectively, in the T12 category. By the end of competition on January 25, Viet Nam’s athletics team had won seven gold medals.
