The 14th National Congress of the Party has set out major orientations on foreign policy in the new development stage of the country.
The new era demands the implementation of “comprehensive foreign affairs at a new height”: Ensuring national interests at the highest; taking peace, independence, self-reliance and self-strengthening as the foundation; placing the people at the centre of all policies; and considering contributions to the international community as a responsibility.
The Congress added the perspectives of strategic autonomy and self-strengthening, and affirmed foreign affairs and international integration as a “key and regular” task, said Politburo member and Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung.
As the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) convenes at a pivotal moment in the country’s development, the role of foreign affairs has been elevated to a “key and regular” task on par with national defence and security, reflecting the Party and State’s heightened trust and expectations for diplomacy in the new development era.
During the term of the 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the world has witnessed far-reaching and epoch-making changes that have generated many significant opportunities and favourable conditions, while also posing unprecedented difficulties and challenges.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ngo Le Van on June 20 received a visiting delegation from the Foreign Policy Advisory Committee under China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
