Viet Nam has reaffirmed its commitment to standing alongside peace movements of people in Japan and around the world in support of nuclear disarmament through its participation in the 2026 World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs, held in Hiroshima, Japan, from August 2–8.

In the field of nuclear non-proliferation, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Viet Nam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, underscored the role of safeguards mechanisms, stressing that countries’ right to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes must be ensured in line with safety, security and non-proliferation standards.

Nguyen expressed his concern over the current international security environment, stressed the importance of advancing disarmament efforts, and called on countries to strengthen solidarity and multilateralism to build trust and shared understanding on this issue.

Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the UN and designated President of the 11th Review Conference (RevCon11) of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), chaired the first informal meeting with member states of the treaty in New York on October 7 to discuss preliminary priorities, orientations, and consultation processes ahead of the conference in April 2026.
