Under Decision No. 1922/QD-BXD, Ba Ria–Vung Tau (previously under Ho Chi Minh City) is set to develop 60 ports, upgrade shipping channels to accommodate larger vessels, and move towards becoming an international transshipment hub, with total cargo throughput expected to reach nearly 237 million tonnes by 2030.

The railway network connecting economic hubs and seaports needs to be designed as the key arteries of the economy, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said at a meeting with the Ministry of Transport and relevant departments on March 2.
