Text campaign launched to support Agent Orange/dioxin victims

A text campaign was launched in Hanoi on July 21, aiming to raise funds to support Agent Orange (AO)/Dioxin victims.

The programme was organised by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) and the National Humanitarian Portal 1400.

The campaign calls on all people and soldiers nationwide to text “DA CAM” to 1409 (20,000 VND for each) from now until September 19.

The funds raised from the campaign will be used for medical examination and treatment, vocational training, construction and repair of houses and gifts for AO/dioxin victims living in difficult circumstances around the country.

In addition to the text message, benefactors can transfer money to the bank account of the Vietnam Agent Orange/dioxin Victims Fund, at the Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank – Thanh Xuan branch: 0031101234005.

The 2022 texting campaign received more than 155,000 messages, equivalent to more than 3 billion VND. All proceeds from the programme have been used by the VAVA to build seven new houses and repair nine houses for the victims’ families with a total amount of 470 million VND; present gifts to victims' families on the occasion of the Lunar New Year with a total amount of 1.430 billion VND; give gifts to victims on the occasion of AO/Dioxin Victims Day (August 10), and donate production capital for victims and offer support to nurture victims at social insurance centres with a total amount of 1.203 billion VND.

Accordingly, on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Agent Orange disaster in Vietnam (August 10, 1961 - August 10, 2023) and towards the 5th National Congress of the VAVA, for the 2023-2028 tenure, the VAVA Central Committee will launch the Action Month for AO/Dioxin Victims on August 1.
