The statement was made by Politburo member, Secretary of the PCC and Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation Nguyen Trong Nghia at an annual press conference marking the beginning of the new year held in Hanoi on February 4.

The event was attended by the PCC’s Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Journalists’ Association and Nhan Dan Newspaper.

The conference was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of the PCC and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications, Education and Mass Mobilisation Nguyen Trong Nghia, among other delegates.

Addressing the conference, Politburo member Nguyen Trong Nghia emphasised that the press must continue to be a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front. It plays a crucial role in communication, shaping public opinion, fostering patriotism, promoting self-reliance, resilience, and the aspiration for national development. As the country enters a new development phase, the press must intensify coverage of major political events, such as the 14th National Party Congress, the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press. These efforts will reaffirm the Party’s comprehensive leadership role and strengthen the people’s steadfast trust in the Party.

The press should also focus on promoting socio-economic development achievements, safeguarding national sovereignty, and preserving and fostering an advanced culture rich in national identity.

Additionally, external communication efforts must highlight Vietnam’s economic, social, cultural, and diplomatic successes, thereby enhancing the country’s global position and reputation.

Politburo member Nguyen Trong Nghia urged press agencies to develop publications and information channels in multiple languages to effectively reach international audiences. He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with world media organisations to amplify official information and counter false and distorted narratives about Vietnam.

At the same time, he added the press must expand strongly across digital platforms, leveraging social media as an effective communication channel to reach audiences quickly and timely, especially the younger generation.

Politburo member Nghia quoted General Secretary To Lam at the recent 9th National Press Awards on Party Building: "Vietnamese revolutionary journalism is not only a forum for the people but also a sharp weapon on the ideological front, contributing to building a clean and strong Party and promoting the country's sustainable development". He noted that this serves as a guiding principle for Vietnamese revolutionary journalism to continuously innovate and create, authentically reflect social life, and remain a pioneering force in the cause of national construction and defence.
