National Press Conference held in Can Tho

A conference was held in the Mekong Delta Province of Can Tho on December 16 to review the press work in 2024 and devise tasks for 2025.

The conference was chaired by Politburo member Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education; as well as members of the PCC: Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education and Minister of Information and Communications, and Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education, and Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association.

At the conference, delegates engaged in lively and candid discussions about achievements and results, as well as the limitations and challenges facing press as it approaches the milestone of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day.

Addressing the conference, Politburo Member Nguyen Trong Nghia acknowledged the significant achievements of the press in 2024. He commended the outstanding contributions of media agencies to the nation's overall development and success.

He affirmed that the accomplishments of the press over the past year were bolstered by strong leadership and direction in media management and orientation, the active role of press associations, and the guidance of supervisory agencies. Most importantly, he highlighted the dedication, responsibility, and tireless efforts of editors, reporters, and journalists across the country.

The Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communications and Education noted that 2025 will be the final year of implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, a year of Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Party Congress, and a year filled with significant national events and commemorative milestones.For journalists, 2025 holds even greater significance as it celebrates the 100th anniversary of Revolutionary Press Day, a milestone of immense importance.

To successfully fulfil their mission and achieve the goal of building a professional, humane, and modern press and media sector, Politburo member Nghia urged press agencies to continue comprehensive, timely, and profound dissemination of the Party's directives, resolutions, and state policies. He particularly stressed the importance of promoting the guiding ideology of Party General Secretary To Lam, centred on the "new era" and the "rising era" of the nation.

Press must play a pivotal role in creating new avenues for development, inspiring creativity, and sparking innovative movements. It must also confront and eliminate barriers and stagnation, working hand in hand with the Party, State, and people to establish a solid foundation for the country to enter a new era of growth.

The press must focus on propagandising critical political tasks, major events, and significant national commemorationsin 2025, including Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Party Congress, the 95th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification, the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security, and the 80th founding anniversary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
