The remark was made by Harry Hwang, Director of Regional Department of Asia and the Pacific, UNWTO, at a meeting with Nguyen Trung Khanh, Director General of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the tourism summits of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in the Maldives on June 16.
According to the VNAT, at the meeting, Director General Nguyen Trung Khanh thanked UNWTO for its active support for Vietnam's tourism over the past time, especially in information sharing and experience in recovering the tourism industry during the most difficult period of the pandemic.
In addition, the Director General proposed that UNWTO continue to implement technical assistance projects and training programs to improve the capacity of Vietnamese officials and destinations.
Harry Hwang thanked Vietnam tourism for actively participating in international events, programmes and initiatives of UNWTO, contributing to the realisation of the sustainable and inclusive development goals of the Asia-Pacific region.
He affirmed that after two years of the pandemic, now is an important time for Vietnam to restart the tourism industry, especially focusing on the development of promotion and plans towards source markets such as Northeast Asia
Also at the meeting, Director General Nguyen Trung Khanh and Harry Hwang briefly discussed the contents of the National Conference on Tourism, which is expected to be held in Vietnam in January 2023.
