The exhibition showcases 200 photos which are divided into four sections, including one on the cooperation between the Lao army and people and their Vietnamese counterparts in the struggle against US imperialism and its henchmen from 1955 to 1975, and another on the bilateral cooperation in the two countries' national defence, construction and development after 1975.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Defence Minister of Laos, Senior Lieutenant General Vongkham Phommakone emphasised that the victory is one of the most glorious in the history of the Vietnamese people's struggle against foreign invaders.

The official stated that the victory not only opened a new era in the national liberation movement of the Lao army and people but also played an important role in the Laos-Vietnam combatant alliance and became a prominent symbol of the spirit of great friendship and special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam.

The exhibition will run until May 31.

On March 13, 1954, the Vietnamese revolutionary army launched the first attack on the French colonialists’ heavily fortified base of Dien Bien Phu, starting a 56-day historic campaign whose victory directly led to the signing of the Geneva Accords on ending the war and restoring peace in Indochina. The victory also created a foundation and conditions for the Vietnamese people to secure victory in the resistance war against the US, liberate the South, and reunify the country in 1975.
