Addressing the ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang spoke highly of outstanding achievements and contributions made by the VAAS to the national construction and defence cause over nearly 60 years.
The President also encouraged the academy to continue to uphold its traditions and to strive for continuous improvement as a leading academy in training high quality human resource for agricultural and rural development, not only in Vietnam, but also around Southeast Asia.
Since its establishment, the VAAS has trained more than 80,000 engineers and bachelor’s degree students, over 5,000 masters and nearly 500 PhDs, accounting for 65% of scientific research and agricultural management staff in the country.
Over 80 lecturers of the academy were honoured with People’s Teacher and Meritorious Teacher titles. Nearly 200 teachers received the title of professor or associate professor.
During the two national resistance wars, 81 staff and 381 students of the academy enlisted in the army. Many of them sacrificed their lives for national defence and reunification.
