In 2022, the bilateral trade value reached 190.5 million USD, a surge of 106.5% from the previous year. Of which, Vietnam exported 102.9 million USD worth of goods and imported 87.6 million USD.

However, such figures have not matched the potential for cooperation between the two countries, said Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Uruguay’s Deputy Foreign Minister Nicolás Albertoni.

As such, the two sides emphasised the need to continue pushing for cooperation in bilateral and multilateral frameworks, diversifying export-import products, and stepping up trade promotion activities.

Concerning agricultural cooperation, the two officials welcomed the establishment of direct contacts to discuss technical issues in the licensing of potential agricultural products in each other’s market.

The conference also put forward many new areas of cooperation such as food safety, customs, science and technology, software, and timber harvesting and processing.

Concluding the meeting, the two deputy ministers agreed to continue working closely together to effectively implement the contents agreed at the meeting towards the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Uruguay.
