Head of the Interpol Vietnam Office Colonel Dang Xuan Khang made the call at the ministerial meeting within the framework of the 81st Interpol General Assembly in Rome, on November 5.

Khang also said Interpol members should also study and adjust the national legal systems on preventing criminal violence in accordance with international treaties.

In a report presented at the meeting, the Vietnamese representative said criminal violence is the most dangerous for the community, which is rising in Vietnam. To cope with the situation, Vietnam has implemented a range of measures to prevent and curb criminal violence, including refining regulations, increasing educational campaigns, deploying the national programme on crime prevention and crackdowns on criminal gangs.

He added that for effective crime prevention, it requires close co-operation and co-ordination among nations on the basis of solidarity, friendship and respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This year’s Interpol General Assembly is taking place from November 5-8 with the theme “Challenges for Police Facing Contemporary Criminal Violence.”

Police chiefs and other senior law enforcement officials from around the world will discuss critical challenges for police such as border security, organised crime, terrorism, cultural heritage protection and fighting trafficking as well as share best practices based on national and international experience.

Vietnam became the 156th member of the 190-membership group in 1991. The country hosted the 80th Interpol General Assembly in 2011.
