“Vietnam coast guards and friends” exchange programme held in Hanoi

An exchange programme entitled “Vietnam coast guards and friends” was held for the first time by the Vietnam Coast Guard Command and the Army Radio-Television Centre in Hanoi on December 10.

The event saw the presence of General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of National Defence, as well as senior leaders of the Ministry of National Defence, the General Staff, the General Department of Politics under the Vietnam People’s Army and delegations from Cambodia, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.

The programme aims to enhance mutual understanding and trust as well as promote consensus and cooperation in performing tasks between the Vietnam Coast Guard and the maritime law enforcement forces of other countries in the region, especially neighbouring countries.

The exchange programme featured reports on the Vietnam Coast Guard with international cooperation activities, a brief introduction on the maritime law enforcement forces of the six countries participating in the exchange programme, the outstanding results from cooperation between maritime law enforcement forces of Cambodia, China, Malaysia and Vietnam, and the outstanding results from cooperation between maritime law enforcement forces of Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

As a maritime country, Vietnam wishes to promote comprehensive cooperation with countries around the world to solve problems related to the sea and ocean. The participation of maritime law enforcement forces of countries with waters bordering Vietnam demonstrated the consensus and joint efforts to contribute to building a peaceful ocean and sustainable development.

Major General Le Quang Dao said that the Vietnam Coast Guard has synchronously deployed their tasks regarding regular patrols and inspection to ensure security and order in the water, fight against crimes of violating the law at sea, hold regular exchange of information with other law enforcement forces in the region, and deal with armed robberies at sea.
