Vietnam Journalists’ Association reviews 17 editions of National Press Awards

The Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) held a conference in the central province of Nghe An to review 17 years of the National Press Awards and carry out a support programme for high-quality press for central and central highland provinces during the 2023-2024 period.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the VJA Nguyen Duc Loi stressed that the event provided an opportunity to evaluate the results achieved over the past 17 editions of the National Press Awards as well as the difficulties and limitations in the organisation of the awards, thereby proposing proposes and solutions to innovate the awards.

Over the past 17 years, the National Press Awards attracted more than 20,000 press works, showing the great attention and significant participation of the press agencies and the public.

The works wining high prizes are those with serious and elaborate investment and many creative and vivid ways of expression as well as clearly expressing the capacity for digital transformation and journalistic innovation.

In honouring their creative achievements, the National Press Awards have become a great source of encouragement for journalists around the country.

The conference received many opinions and presentations about current problems and inadequacies from the participants and journalists’ associations of provinces and cities around the country, outlining solutions and ideas to improve the quality of the Awards.

The delegates also clarified the contributions of the support programme for high-quality press works towards improving the professionalism of journalists and enhancing the quality of the press works; the selection of high-quality works to participate in the National Press Awards, provincial press awards, and other specialised press awards; the processes and regulations in work appraisal; and the procedures for contract signing, payment settlement, and financial-accounting issues.

On the afternoons of October 5 and 6, the Vietnam Journalists’ Association held a conference to review the past year of the emulation movement to build a cultural environment in press agencies as well as the guidance of the implementation of the Charter of the Vietnam Journalists Association.
