The event aimed to raise awareness about the role of creativity and innovation in socio-economic development, building a sustainable society and promoting all aspects of human development.

The event is also expected to boost the development of the national innovation system, with a close connection between the public sector, the business sector, and the research, education, and social areas.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that with the permission of the Government, the MOST has held activities to respond to World Creativity and Innovation Day since 2022 and received the attention and participation of many ministries, sectors, localities and organisations throughout the country.

In addition to the achieved results, Minister Dat also said that Vietnam’s innovation capacity needs to be improved more strongly in the coming period to directly contribute to increasing labour productivity and product quality, protecting the environment and fostering sustainable development.

He noted that Vietnam is transforming its growth model from relying on capital and labour to a growth model based on science, technology and innovation.

Pauline Tamesis, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, said that innovation has the potential to promote the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations.

According to the voluntary national review 2023 on the implementation of SDGs, Vietnam has achieved 5 out of 17 SDGs. In the coming years, Vietnam needs to promote the process of achieving these goals through innovation and creativity and inspiring actions to deploy green technology and solutions to respond to new challenges, contributing to improving people’s lives and bringing about economic opportunities.
