Lam stressed that Vietnam always views the RoK as one of its important and long-term partners, highly valuing the progress in multiple aspects of the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.
With the development of the countries’ diplomatic ties, the MPS and the SPO signed a memorandum of understanding on transnational crime fight in 2019 to create a legal corridor for effective coordination in combating crimes. Both sides have also actively shared information about crimes while working together to investigate and detain criminals, he noted.
To further enhance cooperation between the agencies, the minister asked the two sides to build a plan for reinforcing collaboration in such fields as fighting crimes, verifying and investigating cases, exchanging information, holding mutual visits at different levels, training to improve the law enforcement capacity, and ensuring security and safety for citizens living, studying, and working in each other’s countries.
He also called on the SPO to continue organising training courses in the RoK for the MPS staff in terms of crime investigation, electronic data and evidence analysis and recovery, and Korean language skills.
Agreeing with the MPS’s proposals, Prosecutor General Lee emphasised that the two sides will continue bolstering cooperation in preventing and controlling crimes, especially drug and economic crimes.
Also on April 6, the MPS delegation visited the headquarters of World Taekwondo and the Vietnamese Embassy in Seoul.
