Vietnam-UK strategic partnership witnesses strong, effective, and dynamic development

A ceremony was held in Hanoi by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO), the Vietnam - UK Friendship Association, and the British Embassy in Vietnam on September 11 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - UK diplomatic ties.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu affirmed that since their establishment of diplomatic ties in 1973, Vietnam and the UK have developed their partnership to become stronger and more effective and dynamic in all fields of cooperation.

Vietnam and the UK witnessed outstanding progress in economic cooperation, an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries. According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, Vietnam and the UK have not only promoted close cooperation in areas of bilateral cooperation such as economics, education, culture,and energy but also in efforts to solve global challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu expressed his belief that, with the determination and strong efforts of the Governments, businesses, and people of the two countries, the Vietnam-UK strategic partnership will reach new heights.

At the ceremony, Phan Anh Son, Vice President and General Secretary of the VUFO, said that the Vietnam-UK relationship has been continuously strengthened by the Governments and peoples of the two countries over the past 50 years, while the political trust between the two countries has been increasingly improved.

For his part, British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew affirmed in 2023, Vietnam and the UK celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the 30th anniversary of British Council’s operation in Vietnam and 30 years since the first Chevening scholars left Vietnam to study in the UK.

According to the Ambassador, Vietnam has gone through an impressive journey of economic development and international integration. Affirming that the two countries still have the potential to cooperate in many fields such as healthcare, research, renewable energy and investment, Ambassador Iain Frew expressed his belief that the Vietnam-UK relationship will grow even stronger in the near future.
